CIMA Entry Routes
To gain entry to the CIMA qualification you can either :
(1) Complete CIMA's Certificate in Business Accounting, or
(2) have already gained a relevant qualification such as:
- A degree in accountancy or a business subject
- The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Technician Level qualification
- The Open University (OU) Certificate in Accountancy
- Membership of a professional body accredited by CIMA
Are you eligible for exemptions from CIMA?
If you've already gained a degree or a professional qualification in accounting or a business subject, you may be eligible for exemptions within the CIMA qualification.

CIMA exam dates
There are 2 exam sittings each year:
Registration with CIMA
All students who wish to sit CIMA examinations must:
- Register as a student with CIMA
- Register to sit specific exams with CIMA (you will be sent an exam entry form once you have registered with CIMA)
Note: Enrolment on BMTC course does not register you with CIMA.
CIMA registration deadlines
You must register with CIMA:
- By end January - for May exams
- By the end of July - for November exams
CIMA exam entry deadlines
You must register to sit exams:
- By 14 March - for May exams
- By 14 September - for November exams
Note: these deadlines do NOT apply if you are sitting Computer Base Exams (CBS).
